Getting Back To The Basics In Our Schools
Let Teachers Teach

Over the last decade, state government has forced our dedicated teachers to obsess about standardized testing instead of allowing them to teach! As the son of an elementary school teacher and the parent of three young children, I know that students only truly learn when teachers are allowed to teach.

Ensure Adequate School Funding

I am proud to have helped lead the effort to block an out-of-state funded voucher program, which would have sucked desperately needed funds out of our public schools. We simply can't afford to take educational opportunities away from those kids who need them most.

Increase Teacher Pay; Decrease Class Sizes

Common sense tells us that good pay helps to retain good teachers. Neighboring states like Georgia pay their teachers an average of $10,000 more per year than South Carolina. To attract and retain the best and brightest in our classrooms, I have worked to raise teacher salaries.

As the parents of three elementary school children, my wife Amy and I know firsthand that our kids learn better in smaller classes. I'm committed to lowering class sizes so that all South Carolina children can receive the attention they need.
